The EYFS places strong emphasis on meeting children's individual needs in your setting, it expects practitioners to meet children's individual needs and support them in taking the next steps in their development, it is very important that you note each child's Next Steps in their learning and link these Next Steps into your planning either on a weekly/daily basis within a group or on a weekly/daily basis individually with the child.
Once a Next Step has been added to the system it can be assigned to an Individual Learning Plan for the child or imported and used within your weekly planning, once the Next Step has been marked as completed, the system will automatically add the date the Next Step was completed, a copy of the original Next Step and an Observation to each of the Early Years Outcomes the original Next Step was linked to within the child's Progress / Learning Journal on the system.
Every Individual Learning Plan you have ever created for each child on the system is saved and can be quickly and easily displayed, so you demonstrate exactly how you have been working with each child's individual learning needs / Next Steps.
On every system we have added over 450 sample Next Steps, one for every Early Years Outcome, simply select the Early Years Outcome that you are looking to work on with the child and the system will provide you with the Next Step to help the child achieve the Early Years Outcome.
Help Tours are available to assist you with children's Next Steps on the system.
Next Steps can be assigned to the short term plans or individual learning plans on the system.
Individual Learning Plans are created to assign a child's Next Steps to a plan so that you can work with them to achieve them.
Assign as many or as few Next Steps to a weekly Individual Learning or short term plan, maybe you just want to use one Next Step per week.
Each Next Step can be linked to unlimited Early Years Outcomes across the EYFS, when the Next Step is achieved and marked as completed, the date, a copy of the original Next Step and an Observation gets automatically added to the linked Early Years Outcomes within the child's Progress / Learning Journal.
Individual Learning Plans are assigned to Children for specified weeks.
Children's Next Steps can be assigned to your Short Term / Weekly Planning so that when you are carrying out activities with the children, you can work on a specific child's Next Steps.
Parents can leave Next Steps on the system for their child that are approved by you.
The Next Steps section is available for use by both Administrators and Parents on the Apple iPhone, Android Mobile & Amazon Fire apps as well as a web browser on a PC, laptop or tablet.
Administrators can quickly add Next Steps directly on the app, and parents can connect to the app and see their child's Next Steps, and in addition parents can also add Next Steps for their child directly on the app for you to approve.
Shown below are a selection of screenshots and additional information relating to the Next Steps - Individual Learning Plans (England) section on the system.
Children Information
This section displays the current children on the system, from here you can add or view their Next Steps and create a new Individual Learning Plan for any child, in addition for each child you will see how many Inactive Next Steps they have - currently not assigned to any plans and how many Active Next Steps they have - assigned to plans but not yet completed.
Adding Next Steps
Adding Next Steps to use in a Child's Individual Learning Plan is a simple process, these can be added from within any page on the system by clicking on the Add Next Steps popup and from within the main Next Steps section on the system.
You can add unlimited Next Steps at once across the system and each Next Step can be linked to unlimited Early Years Outcomes within the EYFS, this is done by firstly select the Area of Learning and then the Early Years Outcome for each Next Step.
The Next Steps will then be instantly added and be able to be used within a new Individual Learning Plan for the Child.
As soon as you have assigned a Next Step to an Individual Learning Plan and marked a Early Years Outcome within the Next Step as complete, the selected Early Years Outcome within the child's Progress / Learning Journal will automatically have the date the Next Step was completed, a copy of the original Next Step and an Observation added to it.
Adding Sample Next Steps
In addition you will find a sample next step for every Early Years Outcome within the EYFS (over 450), now you no longer have to think about what you will need to do to help the child achieve an Early Years Outcome, as the system will aid you and provide you with activities or instructions on what you can do to help the child achieve the Early Years Outcome.
Simply select the Area of Learning and Early Years Outcome and the system will instantly provide you with a sample next step that you can work on with the child to help them achieve the linked Early Years Outcome(s).
Existing Next Steps
This section displays the existing Next Steps on the system for the Child, when Next Steps are added to the system they can be assigned to unlimited number of Early Years Outcomes within the EYFS.
The small coloured boxes within each Next Step displays the number of Early Years Outcomes that the Next Step has been linked to for that Area of Learning, placing your mouse over the coloured boxes details the actual Early Years Outcome(s) that the Next Step has been linked to.
As soon as a Next Step has been assigned to an Individual Learning Plan for the child, the Next Step is removed from this section so that it is not mistakenly assigned to another Plan.
If a Next Step is removed from an Individual Learning Plan it will re-appear within this section so that it can be re-assigned to another Plan.
All Children's Next Steps
This section displays the existing Next Steps on the system for multiple children, you can select two or more children on the system and view (on one page) all the current next steps that they have.
For each child's next step you can edit, delete or mark it as achieved.
Assign Next Steps to Short Term / Weekly Planning
When creating or adding activities into your Short Term / Weekly plans you can link the children's next steps into these activities so that you can work on the next steps with the children whilst carrying out the group activities, you can add any number of next steps into your planning for multiple children.
If a child has next steps linked to the same Early Years Outcomes as the activity within the planning the system will recommend linking these next steps into your planning.
Create an Individual Learning plan
This section allows you to create a new Individual Learning Plan for the Child, all the existing inactive Next Steps that have been added for this Child (those that have not already been assigned to a plan) are displayed, and these can be assigned to any day of your selected week, adding a Next Step is a simple process of dragging and dropping or clicking on the day of the week, it will then instantly move to your selected day.
There are no limits on the number of Next Steps that can be assigned to any day of the week.
Manage an Individual Learning Plan
When managing a child's Individual Learning Plan, a simple process of clicking on a note and selecting a date from a calendar will mark one or more Early Years Outcomes within the Next Step as complete, when managing the plan you can select which Early Years Outcomes linked to the Next Step you feel the child has achieved, you can return at any time to mark other Early Years Outcomes within the Next Step as complete.
When marking an Early Years Outcome assigned to the Next Step as completed, the date, a copy of the original Next Step and the Observation (if added) will display beneath the Early Years Outcome within the child's Progress / Learning Journal section of the system.
All Individual Learning Plans displayed in the monthly and yearly view show the number of notes within each plan, the Early Years Outcomes linked to the Next Step and the date they were achieved.
